Day 10

Our last „real“ day in Cambridge was quite relaxing. Everyone was able to sleep longer due to the fact that we had to meet in front of The Mill pub at 11 o’ clock. After all of us had arrived, we were told by the teachers that the plan for the days had been cancelled. Originally, we intended to walk to Grantchester, drink tea in the orchard and play cricket again afterwards at Parker’s Piece. Since it had rained in the night before and the grass was still wet, none of these options was possible.

Everyone was sad at first, but when the teachers told us that they had decided to go to the cinema with us, our mood brightened up again.

The movie at The Vue started at 3.00 p.m. Therefore we almost had four hours of leisure time. As all of us wanted to buy some stuff like gifts for family members, shoes or souvenirs, we used that time quite efficiently.

We met in front of EC School 20 minutes before the film started. We were lucky to be able to experience English picture houses. The seats in this one were so comfortable that half of us fell asleep during the film. Still for those of us who could resist the urge to sleep, Their Finest was pretty enjoyable. Set in wartime London, it told the story of a crew of filmmakers and how the Ministry of War let produce proganda war films. Sadly, no happy ending!

Afterwards we were all sent home to our host families in order to pack our suitcases. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.

Today, we wanted to go for a walk to Grantchester and play cricket in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it had started raining during night and the grass was still wet. Consequently, it was too dangerous to play cricket today.

To fill the gap our teachers decided that we would go to the cinema, after having some time to do our last shopping in England. The teachers decided to watch the film “Their Finest” in the cinema “The Vue”, inside the Grafton Centre. We all were surprised by the chairs, which were really comfortable. Some of the students used the film-time to get some minutes of sleep. Even some teachers did.

After the film had finished, we were free for the rest of the day to celebrate our last day in England.

All in all, we had a wonderful last day in England and we all had a lot of fun. Although the moods were split into two halves. The ones who wanted to go back to Austria. On the other hand, we have those who wanted to stay in England. We are all able to look back at a really funny time we will remember, hopefully, for a long time and be able to laugh about it.
