GUIDED TOUR OF

CAMBRIDGE

Day 2

On day 2 we got up at actually 6 o’clock. Yes, you’ve got it right; we got  up at 6 o’clock. This was pretty early for us, but on the second day we just did not want to oversleep. There was quite a lot of time until breakfast, so we’ve talked about our expectations of this day, which were kind of similar to what really happened, with an exception which we will talk about later.

After breakfast we were  running to the bus stop. We could not find the nearest bus stop, which was very annoying. Luckily, we found the bus stop the same time as the bus arrived. We still haven’t got accustomed to the fact that the cars drive on the left side, but we will get used to it. After we had got off the bus, we realised that we were 1 hour too early. ‘’Well, ok…what are we going to do now?’’, we thought, but in this moment Dilara and Magdalena showed up. We went with both of them to a little coffee-shop where we drank some hot chocolate and where we ate some cake. Then we went on a tour through Cambridge and the Colleges of Cambridge, which was very informative and interesting, because the University of Cambridge and most of its Colleges were built in medieval times.

Our English school started around 2:30 p.m where we were doing  some exercises and where we  learned some new techniques so that we could sound more ‘British’. After English Class we went back to Drummer Street bus station where we didn’t really know which bus we had  to take. So we were kind of ‘straying’ around without any knowledge about which bus we would have to take (P.S.: This was the ‘thing’ we were going to talk about later). Luckily, we found a map with all the buses listed on. At home we had dinner and then we went into our room, sitting there talking to each other and thinking about how to write this report.

PEMBROKE COLLEGE

WAR MEMORIAL

The first exciting but also challenging thing today was to catch the right bus. But finally everyone managed  to get to the meeting point on time. At about 10 a.m. a tour guide showed us interesting places in Cambridge. Firstly we visited a university which looked a little bit like "Hogwarts". Then we went to the park of the university and the woman told us about its history. After that we went to the Senate House where students once  put a car on the roof of the house and it took many weeks to get it down. The next stop was St Mary's, which used to be the University church. It also hosts a very famous clock which is called "The Corpus clock". It is a large sculptural clock conceived and founded by John C. Taylor. The last thing we visited was " the Eagle Pub". The pub belongs to a myth.

When the tour was finished, we had some free time to get lunch and discover the corners of Cambridge.

At 2:30 p.m. we went to the EC school for our English classes and we had to stay there until 6 p.m.
